Abstract
Purpose: The major factors determining refractive power are axial length, corneal power and lens power. It is necessary to measure corneal power and axial length in selecting IOL power for cataract surgery. We have noticed that the two are related to each other in process of ultrasonograpy and then investigated the correlation between axial length and refractive power in the 155 men(155 eyes) and 150 women(150 eyes) that had cataract surgery.

Methods: The axial length was measured with contact ultrasonography, Alcon OcuScan and K-reading was examined with Topcon ARK 8100.

Results: The results of the study are as follows.
1. The mean axial length of men is 23.59¡¾1.30 mm, and women is 2.93¡¾1.22 mm.
2. The mean K-reading of mens is 43.89¡¾1.44D, and women is 44.65¡¾1.49D.
3. The total mean axial length is 23.26¡¾1.26 mm, and mean K-reading is
44.27¡¾1.47D.

Conslusions: In comparison with another reports, the male and female axial length and K-reading were weakly associated with the coefficient of correlation r = -0.339(p = 0.00), r = -0.255(p = 0.02) each other.
